Economics at The Marlborough School

Course description

The course is designed to develop an interest in and an enthusiasm for Economics. It aims to develop an understanding of how Economics influences and affects society and many of theissues facing it, e.g. global warming, globalisation etc.The course would suit students with an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to study. The A-level qualification comprises four units: two AS units and two A2 units.

AS-level Units:Unit 1 - Free Markets in Action: This unit examines the reasons for individuals, organisations and societies having to make choices. It also explores how competitive markets work, why market failure arises and what actions government can take to alleviate the impact of such failure.

Unit 2 - The National and International Economy: This unit describes and analyses UK government economic policy. It also reviews the functioning of the international economy.

Entry requirements

GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade C or above
