LEVEL 2 NVQ DIPLOMA IN HAIRDRESSING at Selby College
This qualification is the progression from the successful completion of Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Hairdressing and is the ‘job ready’ qualification required to work in the Hairdressing industry.
It is particularly suitable for anyone who has successfully completed the Level 2 VRQ Diploma in Hairdressing.*

You must complete a range of assessments on paying clients within set times on the following practical activities:
- Client Consultation
- Develop your effectiveness at work
- Shampooing and Conditioning
- Cutting women’s hair
- Blow Drying Hair
- Cut men’s hairstyles
The salon operates on a commercial basis and mirrors the industry; therefore, you will be assessed not only in aspects of Hairdressing, but also on punctuality and reliability.
You will also be expected to complete two weeks’ work experience in a salon. This may involve travelling some distance and working late evenings where necessary.
Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course.
Standard Level 2 entry requirements apply. For this course you must have also successfully completed VRQ Level 2 Hairdressing.
Progression on to the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing from this programme is subject to the successful completion of this qualification, evidence of progression in English and Maths, with a successful interview and reference. Many students also choose an Apprenticeship to earn whilst they learn and continue their studies.
