Entry requirements

The Subsidiary Diploma is suitable for anyone who wants to learn about the world of business, or is perhaps considering setting up a business themselves in the future.   This course offers the students a vocational course that isn’t exam based.  You will learn through practical assignments which will be set to cover the units. The deadlines for the assignments will be planned over the year and it is important to adhere to the hand in dates, so good time management skills are essential.

This course is entirely based upon student assignments which are internally marked and externally moderated – there are no exams!  Assignments are graded “pass”, “merit” or “distinction”.  Projects are submitted for marking on a regular basis throughout the course. Work is graded and written feedback provided enabling students to gauge how well they are doing on the course. Feedback will help you to see the strengths of your work, as well as allowing you to reflect on areas which can be developed further.  Evidence for assessment may be generated through a range of diverse activities including assignment and project work, case studies, workplace assessment, role play and oral presentation.

Future opportunities

Learners are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and achievement.

A BTEC qualification in Business provides a route to employment into the many diverse areas of business.  These could include:
- Roles in specialist areas such as management, marketing, finance, customer service or human resources in large organisations
- A more generic role in a small local business

It could also lead to further study on a wide range of courses, such as sports science, IT, insurance and accountancy.  Other students may wish to start their own businesses.
