Music Performance BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Portsmouth College

Course description

This course is designed for students who play an instrument and/or sing and it will develop and extend your music performance skills.  You will focus on your solo performances but will also be required to make significant contributions to group performances in a range of styles and disciplines.

Course content

The course explores all aspects of popular music and the music industry.  Performance techniques for different genres of popular music will be at the centre of this course.

There will be extensive opportunities to practise and develop your skills on the instrument of your choice (including voice).  We will also work on the professional use of microphones, instruments and PA equipment in front of an audience.  The performance aspects of the course culminate in an end-of-year event, organised by the group, at which you showcase your talents.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grades A*-C, one of which would normally be English Language. If you wish to include a Level 2 BTEC or OCR National qualification as part of this entry requirement you will need to have achieved a Merit grade or higher.

Assessment

Coursework is assessed through public performances and your ongoing portfolio.
