Course Overview:

This course is run as a two year course, equivalent to an AS level, and contains 2 modules which result in 2 examinations in the middle of the summer term.

The compulsory Module 1 contains: Analysis and representation of data, Maths for personal finance, Estimation, Critical Analysis of given data and models.

All material is taught and applied to case studies, containing real life problems.

For Module 2, there are then a number of optional modules to choose from, which can be decided upon, based the best fit for each particular group of students.

Course content

All students are required to participate in specialist studies provided in conjunction with our sponsors. Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology week models the workplace – 8:30 to 16:30 daily.

In addition to the academic qualifications students also spend a day a week working on Challenge Projects. These are extended projects designed and delivered in conjunction with specialist external partners, the aim of which is to prepare students for STEM based careers. Through Challenge Projects students develop a practical hands on understanding of science, learn practical skills relevant to the partner organisation, acquire transferable skills such as formal writing, presentation, teamwork and leadership, and understand the range of scientific careers available to them upon graduation. In Challenge Project time students also complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which carries UCAS points and is highly regarded by many universities. Furthermore, students are able to work towards a range of other relevant awards.

Entry requirements

Students need a minimum of a grade 4 in Maths GCSE.

Core Maths can be combined with either A level or BTEC courses.

This course is essential for students that are not studying A level Maths.

    • Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology is an academy school, students can join the college to study GCSEs at age 14, or to study A levels or BTEC at age 16. Students are offered a unique opportunity to achieve traditional qualifications whilst also getting a head start in developing the skills required for careers in the twenty-first century.  The college works with a wide range of academic, industry and healthcare providers from across the Greater Cambridge Region to provide a cutting edge science and technology education in state of the art facilities.
