Art and Design BTEC Level 3 at Harris Academy South Norwood
This course is for those interested in continuing their studies in Art, from either Year 11, or the BTEC Extended Certificate in Year 12. Learners must complete five Mandatory units, and enough other units to cover 720 hours. This requires doing another six or seven units. It is studied over 12 periods a week. The Diploma takes two years, and carries the same number of UCAS points as two A Level GCEs.
Students require a Merit grade in Level 2 Art and Design, or a grade C in Art GCSE.
There are no exams, as it is all based on coursework.
Progression to Higher Level courses in Art and Design is normally through application to a foundation course at Art College, before applying to a degree course in a specialist area. Studying Art and Design for its own sake develops transferable skills, which can take you into employment. Success at this level requires determination and dedication.
Future Pathways include: Graphic Design; 3D Design (for example ceramics); Fashion, Fine Artist, Illustrator.
