Theology A Level at La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls' School
The Religious Studies A-level course gives you the opportunity to study some of the fundamental questions which people have always asked about:
- Why are we here?
- How should we behave?
- What happens to us when we die?
- How do thinkers and religious believers provide answers to these questions?
Religious Studies involves some major academic disciplines such as Theology, Moral Philosophy and Philosophy of Religion. Consequently you will study some of the following themes:
Theology - the nature of God; Christology; Revelation & debates about interpreting the Bible; some analysis of biblical texts; religious belief in contemporary pluralist & secular society; religion & Feminist debates; exploring the writing of key scholars.
This course is available to people of any religious belief, or none. You do not have to be religious to succeed in Religious Studies. You need to be a person who enjoys reading and writing essays. This is a heavy essay based subject.
In common with all the new A level qualifications the full A level qualification is the result of a two year course. It is assessed by exams in the summer of Year 13. Exams will be a set of three 2hr exams.
Colleges and universities place great value on this Religious Studies course because it helps develop thinking and analytical skills, the ability to develop and structure an argument, textual analysis and it fosters independent thinking.
