Barbering Apprenticeship at Furness College
Apprenticeships in Barbering are for anyone who enjoys working with people to create different hair styles using a range of techniques.
Students will cover a range of units which may include: client care, health and safety,
advising and consulting with clients, shampooing and conditioning, cutting and styling men’s hair, facial hair cutting, creating patterns, perming men’s hair, colouring men’s hair and reception duties.
Advanced Apprentice – Level 3
Mandatory units studied include: health and safety, advising and consulting with clients, creatively cutting men’s hair, facial hair cutting and promoting services
Optional units include: designing and creating patterns, perming men’s hair, colouring men’s hair, providing shaving services and providing face massage services.
These are dependent on the sector and the criteria of some employers, but they are normally:
Apprentice Level 2: A minimum of four GCSEs at grades A – E or an equivalent qualification.
Advanced Apprentice Level 3: An Apprenticeship at Level 2 or other equivalent qualification
Higher Level Apprenticeship Level 4: These are available in some subject areas; but in all instances you will need to be already qualified to Level 3.
The apprenticeship is assessed on practical aptitude, a portfolio of work and external assessment. The technical certificate is assessed in your lessons through assignments set by your tutors. Maths and English are assessed by examination and a portfolio of evidence.
There is a specific dress code and students will be expected to provide their own equipment.
Once the Apprenticeship has finished there is the opportunity to carry on working, maybe get promoted or if appropriate, progress onto advanced level apprenticeships. In some instances you can go on to higher education in a college or university.
