Care that may take place in the home or in care homes or out in the community and can include anything from helping people get dressed to transporting them to and from a residential home or taking them shopping.
As an Apprentice in social care, you could be a personal care assistant helping someone in their everyday life. It is a rewarding industry to work, needing dedication and responsibility to achieve high standards of care. You will follow a structured course of learning, with the majority of learning taking place at work in a highly practical manner. You will learn on the job, gaining valuable experience whilst at the same time working towards nationally recognised qualifications which will enhance your employment prospects and boost your career.

We will support you with professional, up to date information, advice and guidance to ensure that you choose the right route forward and provide you with an opportunity to work and continue studying.
You will learn in a way that is best suited to you – through practical experience on the job. We have access to great jobs with local employers and your experience will be varied and challenging, shaped by the environment in which you are providing care. Daily duties could include:

You will need to have good communication and listening skills, be able to relate to people from all cultures and be a good team worker. Flexibility is key, as you may be required to work shifts. Although there are no specific entry requirements, GCSE’s in Maths and English would be an advantage, but whatever your GCSE’s, we will design an Apprenticeship to suit your needs.
Your Training Advisor will undertake observations of you in the work place, where you will demonstrate your practical skills against national care standards. In addition, your Training Advisor will assess your knowledge through oral and written questioning to ensure that you hold the necessary understanding to perform your role effectively. You will develop a portfolio of your work which will demonstrate your competence.
