Construction Maintenance Operations Diploma Level 2 at Kingston Maurward College

Course description

Purposely designed to develop further skills and knowledge of the construction industry. This course is based in our modern purpose-built unit and is supported by the knowledge of our experienced tutor team. The course uses a mixture of practical and theory sessions plus online tests and practical assessments, designed to cover a diverse range of topics reflecting the local industry requirements (Not in prospectus "and maintenance operations"). You will have time and resources to develop a range of skills ready for the workplace. The extensive Kingston Maurward campus gives plenty of scope for real practical projects.

  • Building repairs
  • Painting and decorating
  • Plastering
  • Plumbing
  • Carpentry
  • Health and safety
  • Opportunity to work towards a CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Card
  • Relevant work experience

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade D/E or above, including English and maths or Functional Skills at Level 1 OR a Level 1 qualification in construction or related area OR mature applicants with related practical experience. Applicants without formal construction qualifications will be asked to take part in a practical skills assessment at interview. You will need energy and enthusiasm for construction. You will be encouraged to complete a work placement within the industry. Tetanus protection is recommended.

Financial information

Courses leading to a qualification are FREE for British citizens, aged under 19 years on 31 August in the academic year you start your course.* However, there may be some additional costs for clothing/kit and trips depending on your course.  You can apply to the Bursary Fund for extra help towards the cost of transport, food, equipment or childcare.

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, ruler and eraser, A4 lever arch files, calculator. Protective overalls, work gloves and steel toe-capped boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor. Practical clothing suitable for the weather conditions necessary at all times. Polo shirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase at College.

Future opportunities

Trainee level employment. With further training: Facilities Management, Plumber, Carpenter, Bricklayer, Property Development.
