AS/A2 French at Durham High School For Girls

Course description

The AS course will develop your skills in speaking, writing, listening and reading through the topics of the media, popular culture, healthy living and family and relationships. The second year of the course develops these same skills through a more in-depth study of topics including French films, literary texts, the environment, multiculturalism and contemporary social issues. In both years French is studied through a very wide range of materials and resources.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in French, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to French or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your French to study or work over in France. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector. You could take this course to complement other advanced level course or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in French, which could lead onto higher education in French, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to French or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your French to study or work over in France. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector. Some students will go on to read French at university or French combined with another Modern Language. With expanding trade links in mind, French combines well with any International Business, Marketing or Management course. Law with French is also becoming an increasingly popular course.
