City & Guilds Diploma in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair Principles - Level 3 at South Thames College

Course description

If you want to develop your skills in motorcycle and scooter servicing and repair and learn diagnostic and fault-finding skills, this course will give you the practical experience you need as well as a deeper insight into the motorcycle industry. Our two large workshops have a great range of tools and equipment including a rolling road, which is a high-tech performance tuning machine that tests the efficiency and performance of an engine. We have a range of motorbikes and scooters for practical work to give you broad experience.

Course content

Subjects covered include:

  • Diagnostics and fault finding
  • Parts and transmission
  • Electrics
  • ABS braking systems
  • Fuel injection
  • Environmental studies
  • Customer service in the automotive industry.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs A*-C with English and maths at A*-D; OR a relevant Level 2 diploma at least at merit plus English and maths assessed by us to be at an appropriate level.

Assessment

Practical and theory assessments, assignments observed by your tutor and a multiple choice exam online.

Future opportunities

You could progress to a university motorcycle engineering course or start a career in the motorcycle industry.

This is a hands on course in a workshop so you'll need to buy overalls and boots to do the course safely and cleanly. Your tutors will give you more information on this.
