English Literature A Level at Oldbury Wells School

Course description

The course allows you to develop an interest in and enjoyment of English Literature through reading widely and studying an extensive range of views about texts. You will become an informed independent reader and critic of literary texts. Furthermore you will be able to produce personal responses to literature.

Course content

Core content: Literary Genres A study of tragedy as a genre. This will involve the study of a Shakespeare play and two other texts, such as Death of a Salesman and the poetry of Keats, and will be assessed by examination. Texts and Genres A study of crime writing involving a range of poetry and prose covering a wide time period. This unit will also be assessed by examination. Theory and Independence (Coursework) Two essays on a choice of poetry and prose based on critical theory.

Entry requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements: GCSE English Grade 5 or above (Language and Literature).
