French AS and A level at Stowmarket High School

Course description

In the sixth form our class sizes are small, allowing for a more personal and tailored course to be taught. A high percentage of students who study languages in the sixth form continue with their language at university. At present we follow the AQA A-Level course, though this is under review for September 2016 when the New GCE courses will be ready for first teaching. The current course covers the following topics in each of the two languages:

AS level –         Media (television, new technologies and advertising)

Healthy Lifestyles (sport, holidays and healthy living)

Popular Culture (cinema, music and fashion)

Families and relationships (friendships, family and relationships)

A-Level -           Environment (pollution, energy and protecting the planet)

                        Multicultural Society (integration, racism, immigration)

Contemporary Social Issues (law & order, science & technology and crime &

            punishment)

At A-Level, students also study two cultural topics: les films de François Truffaut and No et moi by Delphine de Vigan.
