Engineering (Mechanical) Level 2 at Blackburn College

Course description

This new Level 2 Mechanical Engineering course started in September 2013 in the new STEM centre. A new workshop facility with the latest engineering technology will be used to teach students interested in Engineering. By the end of this course students will be more employable and have a good understanding of what engineering employers require. Progression to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering will be available on successful completion of this course.

Course content

The units studied on this course are:

  • Engineering environment awareness
  • Engineering techniques
  • Engineering principles
  • Mechanical principles
  • Mathematics for Engineers
  • Engineering materials
  • Basic measuring, inspection and mechanical testing
  • CAD

Entry requirements

Entry requirement for the course are 4 GCSE's grade D or above. A grade C in mathematics is desirable but not essential.

Assessment

The course is assessed by a series of assignments, internally assessed exams & practical assessments.

Future opportunities

Following this course you may seek full time employment within the engineering industry or further study, such as the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
