Course description

The course in aimed at candidates who have completed Level 1 and wish to continue their studies for a further year to enhance their skills and employability prospects.

Course content

The course consists of both Practical and Written units which must be completed to City & Guilds criteria.

201 Health, Safety & Welfare within the construction industry
202 Principles of Building, Construction, Information and Communication
203 Producing Thin Joint Masonry (Elective unit)
204 Building Solid walling, isolated and attached piers
205 Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
206 Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures

Entry requirements

It is desirable you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in English and maths. However if this is not the case you will be given the opportunity to achieve these grades whilst studying for your course.  You should also be enthusiastic and committed to success within this exciting and expanding industry.  You need to enjoy working with people, together with working outside for the majority of your working day.

Assessment

Students will be assessed on a continuous basis throughout the course. Assessments will be predominantly practical in nature. However, a number of written and oral tests will form part of the overall completion of the course, together with online exams for each module within the course. You will also be required to complete 3 Practical “synoptic” tests to City & Guilds Criteria.

Future opportunities

On successful completion you may apply to continue your studies in Brickwork at Level 3.
