Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science offer vocational qualifications that focus on applied science and reflect aspects of employment that use science. The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science provides the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for science technicians in the areas of laboratory and industrial science, forensic science service and the medical science service. It also provides a progression route to higher education vocational qualifications such as BTEC Higher National Certificates in Applied Sciences or a part-time degree in Applied Biology, Clinical Science or Forensic Science and/or a Level 4 NVQ qualification. The focus of this qualification is to provide students with the opportunity to specialise in laboratory and industrial science, and specific areas within this, such as industrial applications for electronics and chemical reactions, science and techniques in the workplace or energy and environmental science.

Entry requirements

GCSE Science CC grades or higher or a BTEC Level 2 Applied Science qualification pass or higher.
