Course description

Does financial forecasting float your boat? Or maybe you’re interested in taking your customer relations skills that one step further? If so, this course is for you.

Designed to help develop your business and IT skills, whilst working in a team, the course will fully prepare you for employment within this field.

Business and I.T skills are valued attributes to any business looking to be at the forefront of their sector, so this course will really make your CV stand out from the crowd.

Jobs within your reach include; company secretary, legal secretary, personal assistant, office assistant, telephonist and many more.

With a starting salary of 13k working up to 18-30k, the course will equip you with the initial skills to go far in a business environment.

Course content

This qualification is designed to develop business and IT skills, along with team working and preparation for employment. BTEC programmes offer a practical alternative to GCSE or A-Level study, offering you skills that will be immediately useful in a work environment.

This course has a range of units which will fully immerse you in a business environment. 

The course also includes guest speakers from the industry, presentations and industry visits. 

Throughout the course you will learn a wide variety of skills such as how to start up a business, how to deal with angry customers and how to communicate effectively at work. Units include Finance for Business, Principles of Marketing, Promoting a Brand and Customer Relations.

By completing this course you will be able to demonstrate a high standard of competency in a real working environment, whilst gaining valuable insights from dedicated seminars, which will often be led by Nottinghamshire business leaders. 

At ncn we have fully up to date PC suites which will see you well equipped for any office setting. You will also have access to our dedicated learning centres.

Entry requirements

You must either have:

4 GCSEs (3 at grades A*-D and 1 at grade A*-E), including English Language and Maths.

Level 1 qualification at pass, plus GCSE English Language and Maths (1 at grade A*-D and 1 at grade A*-E).

Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE Maths and/or English.

If you are 19 or over and have industry experience, but do not have the necessary qualifications you are welcome to apply.

You will be assessed via a range of assignments and projects. Assessments include written reports, meetings, presentations, role plays and exams.

    • This former lace mill from the 1800s was once the centrepoint of the UK's world renowned lace manufacturing industry but now it's home to more than 50 of ncn's courses, including TV, Film and Digital Industries, Fashion, Multimedia, Games Development, Business and Administration, Aviation, Travel and Tourism, our HE Centre, ICT and many more.

      The building itself is some seven floors and in our fashion and textiles rooms right at the top of the building, you can enjoy some amazing views of the city.
      Across the road we have our Visual Arts Academy housed within another impressive building located at 25 Stoney Street. Here we have vast rooms and studios with amazing light so that all our art, design and photography students can do their thing.
      It's no coincidence that ncn's Visual Arts and Fashion and Media and Digital Academies are in the heart of the Lace Market. The area has been named Nottingham's Creative Quarter where hundreds of small creative businesses operate from. This connnectivity and vibrant environment gives our creative students a head start!
