BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport at Bournville College

Course description

The Sport BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma enables students to learn about the theory behind sport in great depth. It gives you the opportunity to gain experience for use in the work place or as a stepping stone to higher education. The variety of subjects gives you the opportunity to study most areas of sport and allows you to decide which field you wish to work towards.

Enrichment
All students are required to attend at least one enrichment session per week, and are expected to take an active part in volunteering in the sports industry to improve their employability skills.

Football/Basketball/Badminton/Netball Development Schemes
In addition to the course we also offer a number of Development Schemes. The purpose is to offer both male and female students the chance to develop their skills and knowledge in their chosen sport. This is very demanding in addition to your working week. It involves 6 hours of coaching/training per week plus games against other local colleges.

As well as playing we will offer you the chance to develop your coaching skills through various National Governing Body qualifications. These prove very useful for students interested in pursuing coaching as a part-time job or as a full time career. We provide students with the opportunity to use these skills in summer work in the United States.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, one of which must be English Language. BTEC First Diploma (Merit or Distinction) together with a grade C in English Language. All applicants must have a good reference.

Assessment

Students will put together a portfolio of evidence for the eighteen units of the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. This will be assessed internally and verified externally. Evidence will consist of a combination of assignments, reports, poster presentations, formal observations and practical assessments.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress onto theĀ HND in Sports Coaching and DevelopmentĀ at Bournville College or progress onto higher education programmes at other institutions, for example Sports Studies, Sports Management or Sports Science. It also opens opportunity for students to apply for work in areas similar to subjects studied such as radiography and nutrition.
