Course description

This course is suitable for people who enjoy more practical activities and working with their hands. The course can be quite physically demanding, but it will introduce students into the industry.

The course is an ideal start for people wishing to gain employment in the decorating industry, either by starting up their own business or gaining an apprenticeship with a company. This first level qualification will develop your skills at Level 1 with the progression route to Level 2 Diploma.

The Diploma in Painting and Decorating has an emphasis placed on practical skill development. 80% of your time will be spent hands on in our purpose built workshops at Green Lane Campus. Here you will develop your skills under expert guidance. The workshops have been expertly designed and laid out to simulate Construction Industry conditions. All materials are supplied by the department for you to complete your training and assessments. All your tutors possess a high degree of skills and knowledge. All are industry qualified and have over 50 years’ experience within the industry.

No formal qualifications required.

Assessment

The qualification is nationally recognised. For the theory you will complete end of unit multiple choice tests as you progress and an on-line test at the end. In practical you will be required to complete a synoptic practical assignment when you reach the end of your training.

Future opportunities

Progression to Level 2 or a Construction Apprenticeship will be based upon a satisfactory reference from your L1 Personal Tutor to include professional attitude, attendance, punctuality and performance.
