Art AS and A Level at Ripley St Thomas CE Academy

Course description

The  syllabus  that  we  follow  in  the  sixth  form  at  Ripley  St  Thomas  is  called  Art,  craft  and  design.  This  means  the  course  is  a  broad-based  one,  allowing  students  to  work  with  a  range  of  media,  techniques  and  processes including  traditional  and  new  media  and  technologies.

The   aims   of   the   course   is   to   develop   intellectual,   imaginative  and  creative  capabilities.  To  introduce  you  to  a  variety  of  experiences  that  explore  a  range  of  two-dimensional  and  three-dimensional  media,  techniques and processes

Course content

For  AS  you  will  be  expected  to  produce  a  portfolio  of  work  and  complete  an  externally  set  assignment  which  consists  of  preparatory  work  and  10  hours  of  supervised  time.

For  A2  you  will  work  on  a  component  called  a  ‘personal  investigation’  which  requires  you  to  conduct  a  practical investigation into an idea, concept or theme. You will also complete an externally set assignment which includes 15 hours of supervised time.

Entry requirements

GCSE Art & Design - Grade B minimum alongside passing a portfolio inspection.

AS: Component 1   Coursework portfolio  60%
Component 2   Externally set assignment  40%

A-Level:  Component 1  Personal investigation  60%
Component 2  Externally set assignment  40%
