Fashion Retail Level 2 Diploma at Basingstoke College of Technology
This qualification is unique within this sector and the course is assessed using a variety of methods which directly relate to the type of work students could obtain on completion of the course. The assessment approach ensures students have a fulfilling experience in developing their personal attributes as well as the skills and knowledge to excel in the fashion industry and develop entrepreneurial talent. Students will receive instruction, guidance and encouragement to practise and develop the skills necessary to achieve the award. The course covers a wide range of subjects including:
- Customer Service and Selling
- The Fashion Retail Market Place
- Introduction to Visual Merchandising (window design and store presentation)
- Buying and Merchandising for Fashion Retail
- Fashion Trends and Forecasting
- Market Research and Branding
- Technology for Fashion Retail
- Professional Development in Retail
- Understanding the Store Environment
Students may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.
4 GCSEs at grade D or above including English and Maths with an enthusiasm for working in fashion retail, or a design portfolio.
The course is continuously assessed with some external assessment and testing through written and practical assignments and/or tests.

If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.
This course is a recognised route into a full-time Level 3 course, employment or an Apprenticeship. Typical progression routes might include ABC Level 3 Diploma in Fashion Retail, Advanced Retail Apprenticeship, or employment in a supervisory role within a fashion retail store.
