Art at Kingsley Academy

Course description

The Art Department has a very diverse teaching staff that is both art and design trained. Thus the course is broad and challenging. The project briefs allow opportunities for visits to galleries, life drawing, an introduction to computer use for Art, Photoshop, photography, painting and sculpture amongst others. This is a real opportunity for true creativity and students are expected to fulfil high expectations within the brief outlines. In support of this, the Art Department runs an 'open door' policy and encourages students to use the facilities during their free time - not just for timetabled lessons - and can offer a studio area primarily for the use of AS/A2 students. Course Details/Outline: The course will be brief-led where we explore different aspects of the art and design. * Fine art/Printmaking/Painting/Sculpture * Fashion/Textiles * Graphics/Illustration * Photography * Design As well as visual research you will explore the work of artists and designers, putting it into context. Consider why art and design is produced and gain a greater understanding of the preoccupations/interests of artists/designers

Entry requirements

* GCSE Art and Design *A-B GNVQ Art and Design * Commitment to hard work (a requisite) * A healthy interest in visual imagery * An openness to new ideas * A desire to gain a greater understanding of the subject through research, investigation and experimentation.
