Certificate in Engineering at Appleby Heritage Centre

Course description

Whilst in the workshop you will be able to develop your skills as you carry out maintenance around the Centre as well as through working alongside staff on commercial contracts won by the Centre.

Course content

The qualification is made up of a number of units that will enable you to demonstrate that you are competent in performing a number of engineering tasks.

Entry requirements

Students are given a basic aptitude test to look at ability to follow instructions, manual dexterity and ability with basic hand tools.  A good behaviour reference from school is also essential as students will be working in a dangerous environment.

Assessment

  • Core Unit:
    World of Engineering - Assessed through online test
  • Optional Units: (Students MUST complete at least 2)
    Handfitting
    Turning
    Welding
    Maintenance

All optional units are assessed through a written paper and a practical assignment.

To gain the full qualification you must complete successfully all the practical assignments and pass the online test.
