Course description

This course will give you an excellent grounding in the vocational skills and knowledge required for all types of work in the business environment. This varied work-related course is taught by experienced and enthusiastic lecturers. You will gain the knowledge, skills and personal qualities required to work in a range of business organisations. You will also be involved in practical sessions relating to the use of IT. This full time course is taught over 3 days a week for 2 years. Your course will include Functional Skills and may include additional studies relevant to your main programme.

Course content

The course structure is adapted to meet a variety of interests, needs and aspirations. There are three compulsory core units plus other units from a choice of specialist areas. Subjects may include:
Human Resource Management
Marketing
Product promotion
Starting a small business
Business Accounting
Understanding Retailing
You will have to undertake a number of units for which you present evidence based on real-life work and studies. This allows you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge in practical situations. The course includes mandatory work experience in a local business.

90 Credit Diploma
4 mandatory and 5 optional units
Diploma – 4 mandatory and 8 optional units
Extended Diploma – 4 mandatory and 14 optional units
Learners would normally be enrolled on the Subsidiary Diploma or 90 Credit Diploma and progress to the Diploma on Extended Diploma.

What can I do when I finish?

If you gain suitable grades you may progress to the Higher Education courses such as HNC, HND, Foundation Degree and Honours Degree.
