Design and Technology - Resistant Materials GCSE at Firth Park Academy

Course content

You may work with any combination of materials such as wood, metal and plastics. You will improve your knowledge and understanding of these materials and of manufacturing processes. By using designing and making skills, you will produce artefacts of quality which satisfy a specific need or function. You will be seen as someone who is able to make decisions, work to a plan and produce items that can be used.

Entry requirements

An interest in the work we have done in Resistant Materials in Years 7, 8 and 9. You must be prepared to investigate the real world of design and manufacture, and to develop your design ideas. You also need an interest in developing your skills to make quality products.


Coursework Project

This is a project consisting of a design folder and making an artefact using a construction material. 60%

A Theory Examination paper

Based on knowledge and understanding of the three main materials Wood, Metal and Plastics. 40%
