Course description

This course will appeal to students who enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to their own lives and experiences. You will explore this subject through personal investigation and research and take a keen interest in caring organisations and the clients that they serve. A qualification in this subject would help in pursing a career in the following areas: Nursing, Midwifery, Early Years Workers, Child Care or Child Development, Social Work, Health Care and Health Promotion, Community work and Residential Care. It is also possible to pursue related subjects in Higher Education.

Course content

Unit 1: Communication in Care Settings.
Unit 2: Promoting Good Health.
Unit 3: Promoting Quality Care. (Exam)
Unit 4: Child Development.
Unit 5: Anatomy and Physiology. (Exam)
Unit 6: Core Practice and Provision.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement for this applied A level is five Grade C GCSEs.

Assessment

The award is assessed mainly through coursework (Units 1, 2, 4 and 6), with Units 3 and 5 being examinations. Units 1,2 and 3 are studied at AS level and 4, 5 and 6 are studied in the final year. The AS units are worth 50% of the A level and are equally weighted.

University degree in related subject. Careers in Early Years Teaching, Midwifery, Nursing, Social Work, Community Care.
