English Literature A Level at Holly Lodge 11-19 Science College

Course description

English Literature A Level is both exciting and challenging. It gives students the opportunity to pursue their own reading tastes and to experience a wide range of writing from Shakespeare to literature published after 2000.

Course content

We encourage students to develop an informed personal response to what they have read, based on close analysis, independent thinking and class discussion. The A Level coursework provides the opportunity for students to develop their independent research and extended essay writing skills.

‘Othello’ by William Shakespeare

‘Death of a Salesman’ by Arthur Miller (Drama)

Entry requirements

Grade B or a 5 in English

Assessment

Paper 1: Tragedy 40%

Paper 2: Protest 40%

Coursework in Creative Story Writing: 20%
