Economics B (Economics and Business Studies) A Level at Princes Risborough School
The course allows students to develop an understanding of relevant economic and business concepts and theories. Students will learn how to apply economic and business concepts and theories in a range of contemporary contexts. Students will be required to analyse, explain and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the market economy and the role of citizens, business and governments within it.
An A-Level in Economics B (Economics and Business Studies) allows students to have access to a wide range of possible careers and higher education opportunities. Students will acquire a variety of transferable skills throughout the course, including analysing and evaluating business and economic information from different sources, developing written communication skills and learning how to solve problems. Such skills are in great demand and are recognised by employers, universities and colleges as being of great value.
AREAS OF STUDY:
You will study four themes of work.
Theme 1 – Markets, consumers and firms. This theme explores consumer choices and entrepreneurship.
Theme 2 – The wider economic environment. This theme explores how firms can be more competitive and is an introduction to the wider international and economic environment which they operate within.
Theme 3- The global economy. This theme builds on theme 2 to go into more detail on the international economic environment.
Theme 4 – Making markets work. This theme explores the degrees of competition within markets and gives you the opportunity to apply your understanding to how governments may improve the functioning of markets and the economy.
Students are assessed by three externally set examinations.
Prior study of Business is not essential but students must attain at least a B grade in English or a similar subject involving essay writing and at least a B grade in Maths.
