IT BTEC Diploma Level 3 at St Helens College

Course description

With this course, you'll be studying theory as well as gaining practical skills, investigating computer systems, understanding website production and management and developing your knowledge of managing networks and programming.

You'll also be able to study games, software and security, meaning you'll be finding out which area you're best at, and which interests you the most, so you know what you want to specialise in, in the future.

Course content

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Website production and management
  • Event driven programming
  • Managing computer networks
  • Developing computer games
  • Installing and upgrading software
  • System security
  • Website customisation

Entry requirements

You should have five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and maths.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the year based on a range of practical and written work.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. 

Future opportunities

When you've successfully finished this course there's so much you can do. We offer a degree in applied computing at University Centre St Helens which you can move straight onto.

Alternatively, you might decide to look for your first job in the computing industry. There are so many opportunities!

Students also have the opportunity to take part in the Microsoft IT Academy. This an accredited centre specialising in certified and bespoke IT training courses recognised by IT professionals and business users as the industry standard in professional certification.
