AS/A2 Media Studies at Bourne End Academy
This course aims to look at the issues of representation in the media, focusing on gender, race
social class, age and nation. It also examines critical and theoretical approaches to media as
well as various ideologies.
Students research the range of media available and the way they are organised institutionally,
while looking at new technologies including the Internet. Interpretation and analysis of
different media audiences is also studied.
There are four units in all, two for your AS year (one coursework piece and one examination)
and two for your A2 year (one coursework piece and one examination). For each year the
coursework and examination weightings are equal.
There is no need to have a GCSE in Media Studies, however a minimum of a GCSE Grade C in English is essential.
