RSL Level 2 Subsidiary Diploma For Music Practitioners at Milton Keynes College

Course description

In partnership with Milton Keynes, the Hertfordshire College of Music (HCM) offers Level 2 and Level 3 Music Practitioner Diploma Courses. Performance, Music Tech, Composition and Business qualifications for learners who want to develop their skills within the music industry. These courses focus on learning real music industry skills with an eye on how to pursue a musical career in the future.

These bespoke music qualifications are awarded by Rockschool (RSL) - a globally recognised popular music awarding body and are fully accredited by OfQual and the DfES.

Every single unit at Level 2 has been specifically created to address the needs of the modern music industry. All assessments are based on coursework (units) rather than exams.

With constant support we encourage all of our students to strive to achieve the best results possible and to learn all of the crucial elements needed to be a success in the music industry. All HCM tutors are music industry professionals themselves with many years of experience. They will act as coach, role model and mentor to students maintaining consistently high standards for all students to aspire to.

Course content

We teach you to have a portfolio style career based around areas such as performance, music technology, event management, song writing and aspects of music business, to name but a few.

The course includes:

  • Learning to perform effectively on your chosen instrument
  • Rehearsal and performance skills including performing live
  • Understanding relevant aspects of music technology
  • Composing and arranging music
  • Understanding musical styles and influences from the history of contemporary music
  • Setting up backline for live and studio sound
  • Recording skills

Future opportunities

Progression on to the Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma would be a natural progression for Level 2 learners. Subject to achieving the necessary course requirements.
