General Studies at The Chase School
* Even studying four subjects at AS level is still restricting so all Year 12 students attend a weekly General Lecture aimed at broadening their knowledge of the world outside their own particular subjects.
* These lectures are given by expert outside speakers and cover a whole range of topical subjects in Ethics, The Arts, Science, Technology, Politics and Economics.
* At the end of year 12 students can take a General Studies examination at AS level.
* The specification for this examination is covered to a large extent by the General Lectures so the only other preparation needed is some practice with past papers.
Students who cope well with 4 AS levels in the Lower Sixth and then 3 or 4 A levels in the Upper Sixth will usually have gained at least 4 Bs and probably 2 As at GCSE level.
If you hope to study 3 AS levels and carry these through to completion as A-level, we will expect at least 4 Bs at GCSE level.
Most departments advise that Bs are necessary for entry to an AS course but individual circumstances are always considered, as appropriate, when GCSE results are published in the summer.
