Football Studies Level 3 (Boys and Girls) BTEC Extended Diploma at Accrington and Rossendale College

Course description

This is a one or two year full-time course, giving boys and girls aged 16-19 the opportunity to gain a vocational or academic qualification whilst still developing football skills. Academic studies will total around 19 hours per week on the appropriate course of choice; there will be at least six hours a week of coaching from UEFA A and B coaches. Also included is a personalised training and nutrition programme for each player and the opportunity to play in the British Colleges League and LFA Under 18s League and trial for regional and national squads.

Entry requirements

Students will have to pass a trial held during the easter holidays, to obtain a place on the academy. Once this trial is passed a place on the academy is secure. Academic course will depend on the grades you achieve.

You will require 5 GCSEs at grades A* – C (including English and Maths) or a merit or distinction grade at Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Sport will secure your place.

Assessment

During their academic course students will be assessed in numerous ways ranging from academic writing, essays, projects, presentations and professional discussions to practical presentations, practical assessments and assessed on skills of separate sports in a practical environment, such as coaching, officiating or simply as a player.

Financial information

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

This course will cost a maximum of £480 for learners aged 19 years old or above. This fee may be reduced or void depending on the individual’s circumstances.

Further information

The course will include pre-season training and an opportunity to train abroad in warm weather training camps and play teams from outside the UK (these trips will be subsidised but some costs may have to be met by students). Students will also need to provide relevant sporting equipment but will be supplied with subsidised training kit.
