Children and Young People’s Workforce Apprenticeship Level 2 Certificate at Bromley College of Further & Higher Education
This Apprenticeship is for people who work with children – from birth to 16-year-olds (and their families) – in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development. Workers in this area make sure children are looked after, kept active, happy and nourished. They also help children develop social and practical skills.
Qualifications and Units
As part of this Advanced Apprenticeship, the apprentices will complete the following qualifications:
- City and Guilds NVQ Advanced Apprenticeship in Children and Young People’s Workforce Level 2
- Functional Skills in Mathematics
- Functional Skills in English
- Functional Skills in Information Communication Technology (ICT)
You will be required to demonstrate in the workplace your ability covering various units and identify in reflection or the use of work products where this cannot be observed which include the following units:
- Introduction to communication in health and social care or children and young peoples workforce.
- Introduction to personal development in health and social care and children and young peoples settings
- Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children and young people’s settings.
- Maintain and support relationships with children and young people.
- Support children and young peoples positive behaviour
- Contribute to the support of child and young persons development
- Contribute to children and young peoples health and safety
- Contribute to the support of the positive environments for children and young people
- Understand partnerships working in services for children and young people
- Paediatric emergency first aid
- Managing paediatric illness and injury
As part of the Apprenticeship, apprentices will also complete
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities and
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
These elements are included in either the day/block release workshops or the ‘on the job’ assessment.
There are no formal qualification entry requirements in order to access the framework at Levels 2, but learners must complete Functional Skills qualifications (or equivalents) in order to successfully complete the framework. There is a drive to have a minimum L3 qualified, graduate led workforce and therefore there are expectations to ensure a good level of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills to facilitate learner progression. So learners will be required to have a minimum of Entry Level 3 in English and Maths
To enrol onto this Advanced Apprenticeship, potential apprentices will need a contract of employment, working in a relevant electrical role for at least 30 hours a week and also be paid the National Apprenticeship minimum wage or above (£2.73 per hour).
There will be further opportunity to progress onto higher level and specialist professional qualifications for this industry. Job roles suitable for
Nurseries, Preschools, Day Care Setting, Early Year Settings in Schools (reception/Year 1), After school clubs following the EYFS or Early Years Workers/ Assistants
