Course description

What will I study?

Our public restaurants and bar will provide you with the confidence to deliver a high level of service to all customers. Bar, restaurant, barista and business are combined to ensure you are fully prepared for the workplace, with experienced lecturers on hand to guide you into the industry. You will have the opportunity to take part in field trips and visits, with Externship (experiential learning opportunities) modules and work placements tailored to your studies to help you define your career path with relevant experience.
 
You  will  also  benefit  from  the  highest  calibre of guest lecturers and exemplary networking and employment opportunities. This course is the starting point for many of the UK’s leading professional waiters, restaurant managers and sommeliers. It is focused on developing a broad range of practical hospitality skills to equip you for the rigours of the modern hospitality and food service environment.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at grade E or above, a Level 1 Diploma in Hospitality/Catering or equivalent Level 1 qualification. You should have industry experience or be able to demonstrable commitment to, and an interest in, the industry. If you already have a Level 1 or 2 qualification and/or experience you may be able to apply direct to the second or third year of the course, dependant on an interview, test and meeting the general College entry requirements.

Assessment

Students will work in the College training kitchens and in our public award winning restaurants, The Vincent Room Brasserie and the Escoffier Room Restaurant. Theory classes are delivered in a bespoke catering theory room equipped with computers with internet access.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Hospitality and further professional development programmes in Hospitality Management and Leadership at Westminster Kingsway College.
