Applied Business Studies at Elizabeth Woodville School

Course content

The GCSE in Applied Business has been designed to provide a range of learning styles to motivate students to achieve the best they can and to empower them to take charge of their own learning and development.  The specifications enable candidates to develop understanding and knowledge of business through the investigation of a range of business organisations. This will help prepare students for employment, further education or training. Candidates will study the following three units: Unit 1 Investigating Business Portfolio Assessment (33%) Unit 2 People in Business Portfolio Assessment (33%) Unit 3 Business Finance External Exam (33%)


Assessment is designed to give credit for what candidates can do as well as what they know.  It is based on portfolio evidence from assignments, set and assessed by the school and moderated by the exam board.  There is also an external assessment, which is set and marked by the exam board. Unit 1 Investigating Business      Portfolio Assessment (33%) Unit 2 People in Business            Portfolio Assessment (33%) Unit 3 Business Finance               External Exam (33%) The qualification is of a standard, which is equivalent to two GCSEs at grades A* to G.
