Health and Social Care - Level 3 (Full-Time) at Newcastle College

Course description

This course is delivered by highly experienced health and social care professionals who can give you a real insight in the health and social care sector.

You will have an exciting and challenging experience using our simulation hospital ward and the chance to practice your skills in a work placement. During your course we will support you to progress to the career you want, and in year 2 you can specialise in areas of health science, health studies and social care.

Course content

People who work in the health / social care sector need a range of practical and academic skills. We will help to develop your skills and knowledge so that you can progress to the career of your choice in the future.

You will learn about: How the body works, how we change as we age, what happens when things go wrong in the body, how to help people, how society works and how people think.

You will develop skills in: Care and compassion, how to organise your learning, working with other people, presenting your work, personal development and how to manage interviews.

You will practice all of these skills in the classroom, in our state of the art hospital ward and on your work placement. Also, you will have the opportunity to get involved in fund raising projects, College events and volunteering in your local community. 

Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSEs grade C or above including English and Maths
  • Satisfactory DBS clearance
  • Caring and compassionate nature

Assessment

We will assess you throughout your programme of study, and support you to improve your grades as you progress.

Assessment is carried out in various ways, including through written work like reports and essays, as well as presentations and discussions. We will also assess your practical skills, for example carrying out experiments or demonstrating caring skills in the simulation hospital.

Future opportunities

Throughout your course your personal tutor will support you on your progression journey. You will have the opportunity to discover a wide range of progression opportunities whether it be in employment or higher education.

Guest speakers, visits, open days and other events with employers and Universities will be available for you to attend to support your progression options.

We will help you with developing your CV, writing your personal statement and applying to University. Many of our learners progress onto courses including Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Health, Healthcare Practice, Social Care and Social Work but there are many more opportunities available.

 

This qualification could enable you to secure employment in the health and care sector in a supervisory role.
