Design and Technology - Graphics at Guru Nanak Sikh Academy

Course description

Aims: * to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding, in order to design and make quality products. * to consider the effects and implications of technological activity. * to develop their design and technology capability through activities which involve a range of contexts, materials and purposes which lead to practical results. * to have opportunities to develop practical abilities to develop practical abilities and the confidence to design, make and modify products and systems for identified purposes. In addition it trains them to select and use material resources effectively. Students will design and make two and tree dimensional work. Projects could be designing a poster, a mobile phone, novelty packaging, invitation cards, logos and many more exciting design projects. Assessment and Coursework The subject is assessed through coursework and a terminal examination: Coursework 60% Examination 40% The course marks are divided as follows: 20% for the design folder and 40% for the making project. The coursework is set from a range of projects compiled by the examination board. Students are expected to undertake a projects by working through the design process. Students are required to apply their knowledge, understanding, design and making skills to produce quality outcomes and a well presented design folder.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Design and Technology or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to Design and Technology and Electronics such as an Technician, Electrician or Design Engineer. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
