Award and Certificate in Health and Social Care at York Learning - City of York Council

Course description

You will gain an insight into the key responsibilities and activities involved in working in the care sector with the Award or Certificate in Health and Social Care. These introductory qualifications cover areas such as caring for specific health needs, communication, job opportunities in the sector and promoting healthy habits in care.

These qualifications are for anyone interested in working with people who need help with their physical or emotional care or daily living needs, or support to maintain their independence.

You don't need any previous experience or qualifications, and you don't need to be working as a carer already. You might be a younger learner (14–19 years old) or an adult.

To get a Health and Social Care qualification you'll learn in a group with your training provider. You'll be assessed on a portfolio of evidence you'll build over the course of the qualification. This portfolio will typically contain assignments, case studies, projects, observations and expert witness testimony.

Future opportunities

Achieving one of these qualifications can help you work in the health care or social care sector. After completing the Entry Level 3 Award a good next step for advancing in your career would be to progress to the Level 1 Certificate. On completion of the Level 1 Certificate you may be interested in continuing to a related Level 2 qualification:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care
  • Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care
  • Level 2 Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care
