A Level Dance at Newbold Community School

Course description

Why should I study this course? This course is concerned with Dance in performance, with a focus on developing technical and expressive performance skills, creative approaches to choreography and the ability to analyse and appreciate dance in a number of forms and contexts. If you want to develop imagination, sensitivity and artistic knowledge and understanding, and want a Higher Education course or career that involves a confident outlook, meeting people, solving problems and working as a team, this could be the course for you! Throughout the course you will have access to state of the art facilities, including a large dance studio, a hall with raked seating and a recording studio. You will have the opportunity to study a range of dance styles, pieces and practitioners, and create your own performance pieces working as part of a small, committed group. A key part of the course will involve seeing a wide range of live dance, both locally and nationally.

For an AS qualification students will take units 1 and 2.
For an A-Level qualification, students will take units 1, 2, 3 and 4.

AS Unit 1 Understanding Dance - DANC1
AS Unit 2 Choreography and Performance - DANC2
A2 Unit 3 Dance Appreciation: Content and Context - DANC3
A2 Unit 4 Group Choreography and Solo Performance - DANC4

Entry requirements

GCSES in Dance at Grade C or above, BTEC in Dance related subject, or extensive experience of Dance outside of school.
