IT Diploma, Level 2 (Higher) at Tomlinscote School and Sixth Form College

Course description

The Higher Diploma in IT is a new qualification. If you are interested in taking a more practical approach to the study of IT and how it relates to business this is the qualification for you. You will learn about the potential of technology and will develop systems to meet a business need. It is equivalent to 7 GCSE grades. What will I learn? The Diploma in IT focuses on three main themes: • Business: how organisations work and the role technology can play • People: how to work well with other people • Technology: how to create technology solutions As well as studying 7 units about the above topics, you will complete Functional Skills in Maths, English and IT, and do a minimum of 10 days work experience. You will complete a project to demonstrate the skills and knowledge you have acquired and will study some other subjects to broaden your learning, which will count as part of your Diploma. Is there coursework? There will be a mixture of coursework and exams for the various elements of the course. Grades are awarded from A*-C. This course will appeal to you if you: • Have a strong interest in IT and business • Enjoy using computers to work • Like to work in groups as well as on your own • Would like to learn communication skills • Want to get some practical experience of IT work
