Health and social care - BTEC Extended Diploma in Health Studies level 3 at Kirklees College, Huddersfield Centre

Course description

If you’re looking for a career in the health
sector, this course is for you. It will give you
the opportunity to progress to university and
study a degree specifically related to health,
e.g. radiography, midwifery, nursing or the
ambulance service. The Extended Diploma is
a well respected course which gives you both
academic knowledge and opportunities for
professional development through an extensive
programme of work experience.

Course content

The course includes:

  • human physiology and anatomy,
  • physiological disorders,
  • health psychology,
  • equality and diversity,
  • developing effective communication in health and social care,
  • nutrition for health and social care.

You will carry out a work placement, which will help you to put what you’ve learned at college into practice.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: English 4 and maths at 3 or above, and 3 other GCSEs grade 4 or above including science subject. You will require a DBS check for this course.

Assessment

Through presentations, role play, essays and reports.

Financial information

As a full time student you should not need to pay any course or examination fees (under 19).

There may be a cost for equipment, educational visits, printing etc.

Future opportunities

A degree in areas such as nursing, midwifery, radiography or chiropody.

You could enter employment in:

  • environmental health,
  • paramedical careers,
  • health related careers or
  • teaching.
