Mathematics A Level at Bethnal Green Academy
Unit 1: Core 1
This will start as a recap on the algebraic manipulation you learnt at the higher level of GCSE. The following topics will be introduced during the AS year for C1: algebra, functions, equations and inequalities, sketching curves, coordinate geometry, sequences and series and calculus.
Unit 2: Core 2
The following topics will be developed during the AS year for C2: algebra and functions, exponentials and logarithms, binomial expansion, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, sequences and series and calculus.
Unit 3: Statistics 1
Representation of data, probability, correlation and regression, random variables (including the normal distribution).
Unit 4/5: Core 3/4
The following topics will be developed further during the A2 year: algebra, exponentials and logarithms, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, sequences and series and calculus.
Unit 6: Mechanics 1 / Statistics 2
The applied module will be chosen by the teacher you have in year 13. They will decide whether Mechanics or statistics is taught. Mechanics students look at Kinematics in a straight line, Newton’s second law, momentum, moments and using vectors within each section. Statistics students will develop on their S1 modules looking at Binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, Normal approximations, sampling and hypothesis testing.
Grade B GCSE In Maths. An initial assessment will be carried out prior to the entrance of this subject due to the need for good algebraic manipulation.
