Music at Hele's School
Students must be able to demonstrate a broad range of performing skills both on their own and in a group. They will have to show a capacity for the critical analysis of music, and to develop the subject specific language to convey their ideas and insights. They need to develop their creative skills in composition and will need to develop a sound understanding of harmony. An ability to manage time and workload is essential for this course.
For the performance unit you will have to do a 5-8 minute recital on your main instrument and a second performance on a second instrument or an ensemble. There is also a unit on composition and a 45 minute listening exam looking at a study of 3 jazz and 3 classical set works.
The A2 course follows a similar pattern, and students need to be able to work well both independently, and as part of a team.
At least 5 A*-C including English and Maths.
Usually a minimum of Grade B at GCSE but a qualification in Music is not essential if they have a very good level of performing skills.
