Construction and the Built Environment Level 2 BTEC Diploma at Middlesbrough College

Course description

This course is suitable for students considering or intending to pursue a career in the Construction Industry, providing an opportunity to discover the breadth of the Construction and Built Environment Industries and try out a range of related activities and study units designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a variety of sectors. You will develop knowledge and understanding of the industry and develop a range of skills and techniques essential in Construction.

Course content

The Structure of the Construction Industry (M) Sustainability(M) Science and Materials(M) Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment Exploring Building Technology, Materials, Processes and Procedures How the Trades and Professions within Construction work together Practical Activities e.g. Joinery and Brickwork Construction Drawing Techniques

Entry requirements

To gain entry to this course you will need to possess a Level 1 qualification or 4 GCSE’s at Grade E or above. Science, Maths and English a minimum of Grade D (or an equivalent qualification) or other equivalent qualifications acceptable to Middlesbrough College. You will need to have a successful interview and provide a satisfactory reference. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

The course is continually assessed through projects, assignments, practical activities, coursework and presentations. Two externally marked exams will need to be taken January and May (TBC)

We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. On successful completion of this course progression routes could include the 90 credit Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment, conversion to a trade course within Middlesbrough College, or an Apprenticeship through your employment.
