Performance Studies at Outwood Academy Valley

Course description

AS Level:
Unit 1 Creating Performance
Elements include skill-based workshops in individual art forms, a short piece in each individual art form a longer piece that combines elements of all 3 art forms to be performed in a community venue.
Unit 2 Performance Contexts 1

Candidates study one of the following frome ach section:-
Section A: Shobna Jeyasigh; Matthew Bourne; Lloyd Newson
Section B: Caryl Churchill; Athoul Fuggard; John Godber
Section C: The Beatles; George Gershwin; John Adams.

A2 Level

Unit 3 Community Performance Project

Candidates study 9 extracts from one of the following topics:-
Topic 1: Post-modern approaches to the performing arts
Topic 2: Politics and Performance since 1914
Topic 3: The 20th Century American Musical
Unit 4 Performance Project
Candidates undertake two performance assessments.
These are:-
A performance realisation of one of the works from which they have studied in their performance contexts 1 or 2.
A student devised performance produced in response to a commission chosen from a selection set by OCR.

Entry requirements

As a guide, the minimum entry requirement is 5A*-C grades at GCSE or equivalent.
