Games Design - Extended Level 3 Diploma at Middlesbrough College

Course description

This course is aimed at students who are already inspired by the production, creation and making of games and are willing to work hard towards a career in a very competitive industry.

Course content

The course requires a high level of creative ability, willing to explore new subjects enthusiastically and will give a taste of many aspects of Game Development including practical units in: - Games Design. - 2D Animation. - Digital Graphics. - 3D Modelling. - Concept Art. - 3D Animation. - Games Engines. - Story Development. It also includes production units such as: - Research Techniques. - Pre-production. - Communication Skills. - Production Management. - Working to a Brief. Finally it has several theoretical units including: - Understanding the Games Industry. - Critical Approaches to Games.

Entry requirements

To gain entry to this course you must possess four or more GCSE’s at Grade C or above including English at Grade C or above (or an equivalent qualification), and preferably Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification) or other equivalent qualifications acceptable to the College. You must also undertake a successful interview and provide a satisfactory reference. Progression from Level 2 First Diploma requires a merit level in two units. A degree of artistic ability would also be desirable as progression to Higher Education requires a portfolio for a creative environment. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

Continuous through successfully completing a series of assignments and projects, that requires very good time management and a self-disciplined skills.

Future opportunities

You can progress to Higher Education to study Games Development, Design, Animation, 3D Art for Computer Games or seek employment within the industry.
