Plumbing Level 3 Diploma at Lowestoft College
The Level 3 is focused on advanced Plumbing and Heating. The Diploma is the most up to date Qualification available and is recognised throughout the industry.
Your entry level will be assessed based on any previous experience you may have, initial aptitude test results and from discussing your goals and aspirations.
No matter what level you start at each course prepares you for the next to allow you to progress and maximise your potential.
The course is broken down into units focusing on specific areas which are then assessed. This will allow us to check your progress before the next module begins. Don’t worry! Each unit is carefully programmed and delivered to ensure you receive training appropriate for you.
During the course you will receive practical and theory lessons. In practical lessons you will work through a series of tasks or projects to develop your hands-on skills. All of the tasks that you produce are set by the awarding body to demonstrate and verify your practical skills.
The theory sessions provide you with the underpinning knowledge of the construction industry needed to apply your skills on site.
Areas covered include:
- Health and safety in building services engineering
- Understanding the fundamental principles and requirements of environmental technology systems
- Plumbing system installation planning
- Complex cold water systems
- Domestic hot water
- Sanitation and drainage systems
- Central heating systems
- Domestic gas principles
- Career awareness in building services engineering
You must have a level 2 qualification in Plumbing or Heating and Ventilation Services - i.e. City and Guilds or NVQ. The College will need proof of this before you can join the course. You should be generally competent in maths and English; ideally you should be at GCSE level. You do not necessarily have to be employed within the plumbing industry, but you should have some experience of it. In case of doubt please contact the College.
After practical training exercises you will complete assessments. These are noted in a task manual. Satisfactory completion of the task manual will lead to a pass on the practical section. There are also six theory assessments. These assessments require a written answer and calculations. Satisfactory completion of this will lead to a pass in the whole qualification. You must pass both sections.
After completing this course you may choose to continue with your training by joining another construction-related course or find work within the industry.
