Geography at Fakenham Academy (College)

Course description

At AS unit 1 (Physical and Human Geography) you will cover core physical geography topics of rivers, floods and management, with an additional; topic of energy issues. In AS unit 2 (Applied Geography) you will cover basic, investigative, ICT, graphical, cartographical and statistical skills based on the core topics, together with research skills and the assessment of fieldwork.

At A2 you continue to study a combination of human and physical geography, but you will also undertake preparatory work to be able to produce a fieldwork investigation that is examined in Unit 4A. In Unit 3 (Contemporary Geographical Issues) you will cover a selection of two physical geography topics on plate tectonics and associated hazards and weather and climate and associated hazards. you will also study two human geography topics on world cities and their change over time and globalisation and development.

Unit 4A (Geography Fieldwork Investigation) covers an investigation of a geographical issue or problem, based on a candidate's independent geographical investigation.

Entry requirements

You should be interested in developing your understanding of the importance of the relationships between people and their environments and the significant human and environmental threats facing the planet at present. You should be enthusiastic about geographical issues and impacts and undertaking learning outside the classroom including fieldwork.
